Coffee consumption impacts human health

Coffee comprises several compounds which are known to have an impact on the chemical system of human body. Studies have found that there is relationship between coffee consumption and certain medical conditions. However, if the results are ultimately positive or negative has been widely disputed

the caffeine content in coffee acts as a stimulant, and that is why it is consumed in the morning and when feeling tired. Coffee breaks are given in offices to replenish the low energy levels of the workers with coffee. An unknown chemical agent in caffeine stimulates the production of cortisone and adrenaline, which is again stimulating.

People drinking about 2 cups of coffee everyday are less likely to be affected with Alzheimer's disease later in life. It also reduces chances of dementia, gallstone disease, Parkinson's disease, diabetes mellitus type 2 by up to half, cirrhosis of the liver, hepatocellular carcinoma, oral, esophageal, and pharyngeal cancer, etc. Drinking coffee also reduces incidence of dying from heart disease.

It also helps in increasing short term recall and enhance IQ. The caffeine content in coffee acts as effective analgesics or pain killers, specially migraine and headache medications. The anticancer compound methylpyridinium, a compound which is formed during the roasting process of coffee beans from trigonelline, is present in coffee.

For people who intend to enjoy the flavor of coffee without any sort of stimulation can opt for decaffeinated coffee or decaf. The caffeine content in coffee used for making decaf is removed by soaking of raw beans in water or by using chemical solvents such as trichloroethylene or methylene chloride.
